Common questions

Does this cost money?

No. This site is free, and applying for government benefits is free too.

Is this a government website?

No. We are an independent site. Every answer links to the official government page.

I have no income yet. Should I still file taxes?

Yes. Filing every year, even with zero income, is how most benefit payments start and keep coming.

Do I need to be a citizen?

No. Permanent residents and protected persons can get most benefits. Work or study permit holders can get some, and some only after 18 months.

What if my English is not strong?

Free English classes and settlement agencies can help, often in your own language. Our picture guide is coming soon.
